Masquerade by bittersweet-Grace Masquerade by bittersweet-Grace
there's not much I'm going to say about this, so feel free to interpret this picture your own way.

I'm probably still going to be pretty busy till mid of December, but I'll try to check my messages regularly.

An interpretation of mine would be: We are always being pulled into unwanted directions, connected by invisible threads. They want us to be their puppet and make us wear a mask so no one can hear our true thoughts. The only way we can be ourselves is alone, always alone.

Interpret this you say? Very well.

She's being pulled in a thousand different directions. Each one expecting her to act one way or another. She can't escape, she can't hide, she can only pretend she's fine. And in the quietest moments. In those few times where she is alone, she pulls off the mask and cries silently to herself. The ropes are still pulling her, even in those quiet times, but at least she doesn't have to pretend.

Right that was my interpretation at least. And I do want to say Epic piece, beautiful marvelous. I love how you chose to go grey-scale rather than color. It gives a felling of overwhelming darkness and the lack of color to her makes every thing hit so much harder. She can't feel more than the overwhelming darkness and it's tainting her.

Why should we interpret ? I can feel beauty in this picture, that's enough to me ! Love

Fantastic piece. I love it, especially because I feel like I (and likely many others) can connect to it very, very well. In a world like today's, it's hard to not live life in a masquerade.

to me this is the visual interpretation of borderline personality's haunting and beautiful...

"feel free to interpret this picture your own way"... challenge Accepted!

Once again I find myself praising another art which carries such a powerful message. Here we have the smiling mask, the face and visage that people who feel unable to be themselves think they have to wear in public, be they feeling forced to 'put on a show' for what 'society' deems as normal or to hide away the pain and anguish from those closest to them because they're too hurt and broken to find comfort.

The use of strings in this piece is pure genius. Continuing with the 'put on a show' metaphor, the character of this piece has to wear the mask, conceal who she is and must follow the commands of the Puppet Master, be it - and these are the best examples I can think of off the top of my head - modern society or just a mob of jerks who have emotionally ruined her to the point where she has to 'put on the costume' and 'dance + behave in the way the master(s) sees fit'.  She's now a puppet with no face or will of her own.

I find it interesting that there is no form or identity to the Pupeteer and that there are so many strings; looks fitting as there is no definitive way to identify what they look like or in how many numbers they are. And the other end of the strings are cut off by the darkness and shadow, a kind of world where these trolls/bullies/critics (call them what you will) like to lurk and hide. Even the lack of any other subject really adds to the pain of the Girl in the Art, because eventually if it keeps up, pretty soon the tormented will reach that dark point where they feel more alone than ever.

Well, i've either done an analogy to give an outstanding piece of art the acclaim it deserves, or I've read far too much into it... again :P
I'll let you, the Artist, decide Wink/Razz

The message in this picture is heavy.
I feel like she has many connection with people but she does not show her true self leaving her empty in the end.

Marvelous job. She reminds me of a marionette with all of those strings.

Being jerked around by others with their expectations when all she wants to do is be herself.

This picture is really well done, my dear.

It shows how my life has been and still sometimes is.......our outer appearance can be very deceiving and leads to misjudgement.
And if the victim tries to call out for help in any way, it can't be heard......

So true..
salyssong Featured By Owner Nov 27, 2015  Hobbyist General Artist
I interprete it as a critique of society that forces us to fit in it's models as what is considered ''proper social behavioure''.
This is shown with the character taking of the mask that society had forced her to wear.
But since she had worn it for a long time she now doesn't know who she really is.
The very thing that makes us human is our creativity and diversity as well as beng unique and special each in our own way.

A friend of mine once said: ''Humanity's place is not in chains on the ground, we were born to soar the sky and push the limits to what is possible not to set them for ourselves. God didn't give us wings not because it didn't want us to reach the sky but because it didn't want us to be just limited to the sky that's why it gave us intelect instead.''
